Music didn’t change the outcome, but it did change the story.
Healing by Headphones
Benjamin Goldberg was five-years old when he first heard the word Neuroblastoma, a rare cancer that affects children.
Following his diagnosis and during years of treatment, music was a form of healing Ben prescribed for himself. Ben had a highly evolved and innate sense of what he needed. His father was a popular Virginia-based radio DJ, which hinted at the possibility of music in Ben’s blood. Whatever the source, he often reached for his headphones to find calm, get centered and express himself through music.
Ben’s powerful healing model is honored today through the BGF. His mother Wendy continues to feel his telepathic touch and remembers how he made everyone around him feel seen. Knowing that his story could help others, he told her to put important notes in ‘her book,’ which he later called Mom’s Book-Wendy. This compilation of anecdotes from years in treatment was one of three on a list he would bring with him on a deserted island.
Wendy is inspired every day by Ben’s truth and his unique connection to others, concern for their wellbeing and his quirky zest for life.
The Foundation's mission is the integration of medical modalities that honor all the things Ben ‘knew’ that makes us whole.
