Music didn’t change the outcome, but it did change the story.
Healing by Headphones
Benjamin Goldberg was five when he first heard the word neuroblastoma, a rare cancer that affects children. From the moment of diagnosis and throughout his years of treatment, music became a form of healing Ben prescribed just for himself. He had an innate sense of what he needed.
His father was a vibrant Virginia-based radio personality, hinting at the possibility of music in Ben’s blood. Ben often reached for his headphones to feel calm and centered, and to express himself through music.
Today, Ben’s powerful healing model lives on through the Benjamin Goldberg Foundation. His mother, Wendy, continues to feel his telepathic touch and recalls how he made everyone around him feel seen. Sensing that his story could help others, Ben nudged her to gather notes, memories, and moments. Those fragments became a memoir, forthcoming in August 2026.
Wendy draws inspiration every day from Ben’s quirky zest for life, and his concern for the well-being of others. The Foundation reflects that spirit—integrating clinical care with healing arts such as music and movement. BGF honors all the things that Ben knew make us whole.
